History

Our Alma Mater, River High School, had its beginning in Clarington, Fly, Hannibal, Laings, Sardis and eventually Powhatan. From these small communities in Monroe Country students and faculty joined to establish the first River High School in 1954. The first building was in what was known as Buckhill Bottom along route 7 between Clarington and Hannibal, Ohio.

River High did not stay at this location long as the building was purchased by the Ormet Corporation as their plans to build a plant along the Ohio became a reality.
The River High School we know today opened for the 1957-1958 school year. The River Campus now includes not only the high school but also River Elementary.

From that first school building, River has evolved into a modern, well-equipped building filled with qualified and caring faculty and staff.
